Don't Kill Your Computer with Game Downloads |
|
|
Internet users should be wary of all downloads. Although downloading
some software from the Internet may appear to be a harmless activity,
doing it can actually be very dangerous. Even a simple click can end
the life of your computer. I have had to learn this fact the hard way.
I hope that I can help someone else avoid these mistakes by sharing my
experiences.
I was surfing and minding my own business a few years ago, when a little ad suddenly popped up. I went to click the X at the top of the ad which usually closes such windows. Unfortunately, this seemingly harmless ad was different. I realized that I no longer had any control over my computer within a few seconds. Something got in when I clicked that window that destroyed my computer.
A friend of mine experienced something similar after looking into game downloads. He had been playing super text twist at work a lot so he wanted to get a version of it on his home computer. He easily found multiple sites offering super text twist and other games when he searched for game downloads. However, his PC was attacked by a Trojan virus as soon as he had lowered her firewall to allow the game downloads through.
You have to be very careful when opening up your computer for game downloads or any kind of download. You never know who or what is one the other side of a website. Do not proceed with the download if you are not sure that the source of the game downloads is secure and trust-worthy. In our modern world, a computer is a very valuable resource. If your computer’s destruction was your own fault, it will be difficult and expensive to replace it.
Install McAfee Site Advisor if you are thinking about downloading games to your computer. Site Advisor will alert you about any problematic website before you visit it. Now, I’m not trying to say that there are no safe game downloads out there because there are. However, you should do a bit of searching before you find one. Using Site Advisor to aid you in this search will help keep you and your computer out of harm’s way.
